Hello, I'm John Whitton.

I am an engineer, architect, and leader focused on building complex systems across Trading Systems, Financial Infrastructure, DeFi Protocol Engineering, Distributed Systems, and AI Engineering.

Over the past twenty-plus years I have worked across startups, enterprise organizations, blockchain networks, financial platforms, and emerging technologies. My career has consistently focused on understanding complex systems, designing practical solutions, and helping teams deliver them successfully.

Engineer

I enjoy building systems.

My recent work includes trading infrastructure, liquidity mapping, route evaluation, stablecoin infrastructure, protocol engineering, distributed systems, and developer platforms. I remain a hands-on engineer and continue to spend significant time designing, building, testing, and operating production systems.

I am particularly interested in systems that combine performance, scalability, and real-world business outcomes.

Architect

Architecture has been a constant theme throughout my career.

My earlier work focused on enterprise integration, service-oriented architectures, and large-scale business platforms. Over time that evolved into blockchain infrastructure, protocol design, financial infrastructure, and trading systems.

Across each generation of technology, the underlying challenge has remained the same: understanding how complex systems interact and designing solutions that can evolve over time.

I enjoy helping teams succeed.

Throughout my career I have worked as a founder, CTO, engineering manager, architect, and technical leader. I have built and scaled teams, hired engineers, mentored individuals, and led cross-functional initiatives across startups and enterprise organizations.

The most rewarding part of leadership is helping talented people grow while delivering meaningful outcomes together.

Each stage built upon the previous one.

Enterprise systems provided a foundation in scale and integration. Blockchain introduced distributed networks and protocol design. Financial infrastructure expanded into payments and settlement systems. Trading systems brought performance, execution, routing, and market infrastructure. AI engineering is now creating entirely new ways to design, build, and operate software systems.
